Who we are
Well Grown Farms LLC is a micro-green producer, that is indoor with 24/7 and year-round harvesting. The micro-greens are nutrient-dense and harvested every 7-10 days. They provide a unique taste to foods coveted by many Spokane area chefs. Like many businesses, Well Grown Farms struggled with the pandemic. We realize there is an exciting opportunity for the business by expanding the product lines by offering salad greens and herbs. This expansion will continue to follow the principles of food and water security and decrease the impact towards climate change.
Our Story
Jay and Donna have been married since February 20, 1980. They met for the first time 8 months earlier in Missoula Montana, even though they lived only 20 miles apart in Central Montana. Donna and her 4 sisters and one brother grew up working the family business at Eddies Corner and graduating from more high school. Jay graduated from Fergus County high school in Lewistown after his family of 2 brothers and one sister moved from his birthplace of Bismarck, North Dakota.
Donnell with her 2 children Natalie and Nikki joined Jay in Independence Missouri starting a new life together. They would continue to reside there until the completion of Jay’s medical school education and internal medicine residency training. After the education and training were completed, it was time to go to work.
The family moved to Colstrip Montana in 1985 where Jay completed a scholarship requirement by working in a rural underserved area. Donna continued her work as a beautician and the children continued to grow.
The next move was to Davenport Washington. Jay and Donna continued their love of small towns and Natalie and Nikki graduated from Davenport high school (go Gorillas!). By the end of our stay in Davenport Jacob was born on February 25, 1994. The move that followed was to Dayton Washington where Jay would begin work at Dayton General Hospital and the Whitesburg clinic. Within that year the daughters started adding grandchildren. 10 years after Jacob’s birth there would come a complex and difficult time and the last move.
Jay knew that he wanted to work as a physician for as long as possible, however, the physical demands were wearing on him. Even with the help of Donna, it would take 2 years to organize the career change and a move. Jay was accepted to the University of Washington School of Medicine and Psychiatry Residency Program. Initially, the residency demands were harsh in that one year would be spent in Seattle while Donna and Jacob stayed in Spokane and later Spangle.
During these years, Donna got more involved in horticulture and worked at Garden centers, like the Rosarium. Jacob eventually graduated from Liberty high school and Eastern Washington University. During his course work at the university, he took an environmental ethics class. This along with Jay’s interest in environmentalism lead to the idea of developing food security, water conservation, and decreasing climate change risk. This led to the creation of Well Grown Farms LLC in 2018.
